A Morning Without a Stopwatch

Tell us about your morning routine.

I’ve never quite understood people who leap out of bed at five o’clock in the morning, drink a glass of something green, complete a forty-minute workout, meditate, journal, and apparently reorganise their entire existence before the rest of us have found our slippers.

Good for them, darling.

But if I attempted all that, I’d need a nap before breakfast.

My mornings are a little less ambitious.

First things first: waking up.

I like to take a moment before launching myself into the day. There’s something rather lovely about those first few minutes when the world hasn’t yet started demanding things from you.

No grand revelations. No life-changing decisions.

Just a little peace before the circus opens.

Then comes the important business of coffee.

I’m not prepared to make any sweeping claims about its nutritional benefits, but I can confirm that my willingness to engage in complicated conversations improves considerably after the first cup.

And I do mean after the first cup.

There are limits to my generosity.

Once I’ve sufficiently re-established diplomatic relations with the waking world, I like to have a look at what’s happening around me. A message from a friend, a little news, perhaps something that makes me laugh or something that gets me thinking.

I don’t necessarily need to have the entire day mapped out.

Some days are busy. Some are quiet. Some begin with the best intentions and then take a sharp left turn into complete nonsense.

That’s life, isn’t it?

I’ve learned that a routine should give your day a little structure without turning it into a prison sentence.

A walk is lovely when the weather cooperates. A favourite song can put me in the right mood. And if there’s dancing in the diary, well, that’s something to look forward to.

But I don’t believe every morning has to be productive.

Sometimes a morning can simply be a morning.

A cup of coffee.

A little time to think.

A chance to decide what deserves your attention today, and what can jolly well wait until tomorrow.

Because here’s the thing I’ve come to appreciate: the way we begin a day doesn’t have to determine how successfully we live it.

You can have a dreadful morning and still have a wonderful afternoon.

You can sleep through your alarm, burn the toast, lose your keys, and somehow still end up having a rather splendid day.

Don’t ask me how. Life enjoys a good plot twist.

So my morning routine?

Coffee, a little curiosity, and enough flexibility to let the day surprise me.

And if all else fails, put on some Glenn Miller and have a dance around the kitchen.

Works wonders for the disposition.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, darling, I believe the kettle is calling.

Stay Fabulous,
Luce 💋
