What’s a place you visited that felt like home?
Québec City.
And I think it’s the contrast that stayed with me.
Because Québec City is a proper city. It’s busy, alive, full of history, restaurants, shops, people coming and going.
But somehow, it still manages to feel like a small town.
And I adore that.
You can wander through the streets and feel the energy of a city around you, yet there’s something wonderfully personal about it.
The architecture. The language. The little cafés. The sense that life isn’t necessarily rushing past you, even when there’s plenty happening.
It’s a place where you can be surrounded by people without feeling swallowed by the crowd.
And perhaps that’s what I found so comforting.
I’ve always thought there’s a difference between a place being busy and a place feeling alive.
A busy place can leave you exhausted.
A lively place can make you feel as though you belong to something.
Québec City has that feeling for me.
It’s bustling, but it doesn’t seem to have forgotten the value of slowing down.
You can explore, discover, sit with a coffee, watch people passing by, and simply enjoy being there.
And perhaps the small-town feeling comes from that sense of connection.
The idea that a city doesn’t have to be enormous in spirit just because it is busy in practice.
You can have history and modern life.
Tourists and locals.
Grand streets and quiet corners.
All existing together.
I think that’s what makes a place feel like home to me.
Not that everything is familiar.
Not that I know every street or every face.
But that the atmosphere feels welcoming.
That I can imagine myself returning.
Not just to visit the sights, but to become part of the rhythm.
To find a favourite café.
To recognise a street corner.
To have a place where someone might eventually say:
“Oh, there you are again.”
And honestly, darling, I’d rather like that.
Because perhaps home isn’t always about finding somewhere that looks like the place you came from.
Sometimes it’s finding somewhere that feels like the place you could belong.
For me, that place has been Québec City.
A bustling city with a small-town heart.
And a rather lovely reminder that you don’t always have to choose between excitement and belonging.
Sometimes, you can have both.
Stay Fabulous,
Luce 💋
