What’s one thing that would instantly improve your city?
If I could instantly improve one thing about this city, I’d add more benches.
I know.
Not exactly the answer you expected, was it?
But hear me out.
Cities are brilliant at helping us get somewhere. Pavements, trams, crossings, stations… everything is designed to keep people moving.
I’d like a few more places that invite people to stop.
A bench beneath a tree.
A little square with a few chairs.
Somewhere to enjoy a coffee without having to buy another one.
Somewhere an elderly person can rest for five minutes.
Somewhere two friends can sit and finish a conversation because neither of them is in a hurry.
I think benches do something rather magical.
They quietly say:
“You’re welcome to stay.”
And perhaps that’s one of the nicest things a city can offer its people.
Not another reason to rush.
Another reason to linger.
This place already has an incredible energy. Music spills out of doorways, people fill the streets, and there’s always somewhere to go.
I’d simply add a few more places to sit down and watch it all happen.
Who knows?
You might meet someone.
You might hear a busker.
You might have the conversation that changes your whole day.
Or you might simply enjoy ten peaceful minutes doing absolutely nothing.
And honestly, I think every great city deserves a little more room for that.
Stay Fabulous,
Luce 💋
