Who is your favorite cartoon character?
Who is my favourite cartoon character?
Oh, that’s easy.
Cruella de Vil.
Now, before anyone starts making calls, let me clarify:
It’s not the puppies.
It’s the attitude.
Cruella has never, for even one second, looked in the mirror and thought:
“Perhaps I’m being a little much.”
The clothes? Dramatic.
The hair? Fabulous.
The entrance? Probably requires its own soundtrack.
And subtlety?
Darling, what is subtlety?
There’s something strangely liberating about a character who has absolutely no interest in making herself smaller so everyone else can feel comfortable.
And perhaps that’s what I like about cartoon characters in general.
They get to exaggerate everything.
The brave one is really brave.
The villain is really villainous.
The funny one is completely ridiculous.
The grumpy one has practically turned grumpiness into an Olympic sport.
Nobody expects them to be perfectly balanced human beings.
They’re allowed to have enormous personalities.
Perhaps we could learn something from that.
Not that we should all run around town wearing black-and-white wigs and plotting elaborate puppy-related crimes. Obviously.
But maybe we could stop worrying quite so much about being “too much.”
Too loud.
Too enthusiastic.
Too emotional.
Too colourful.
Too different.
Sometimes the things that make us slightly unusual are exactly the things that make us memorable.
And if somebody thinks you’re a little bit much?
Well…
Perhaps they simply haven’t turned the volume up enough.
Stay Fabulous,
Luce 💋
