The Last Movie That Made Me Cry

What’s the last movie that made you cry?

About Time.

And before anyone gets clever — no, I wasn’t expecting it either.

It isn’t even really the sad parts that got me.

It was the ordinary ones.

The little moments between the big moments. A father and son talking. A family sitting around a table. A day that seems completely unremarkable until you realise that you’ll never have that exact day again.

That’s what got me.

There is something terribly unfair about how quickly we learn to rush through our lives.

We wait for the holiday. The promotion. The big announcement. The perfect photograph. The thing we’ve been working toward.

And meanwhile, Tuesday afternoon is happening.

Someone you love is sitting across from you.

Your children are getting a little older.

Your parents are getting a little older.

A friend is telling you a ridiculous story you’ve heard three times already.

The kettle is boiling.

The sun is coming through the window.

Nothing extraordinary is happening.

And perhaps that’s exactly what makes it extraordinary.

I think that’s why some films make me cry long after the sad scene has passed. They remind me that life isn’t actually made up of the moments we put in frames.

It’s made up of all the little ones we almost didn’t notice.

And perhaps the most beautiful lesson in the film is that you don’t need a magical ability to go back and change your life.

You can simply start paying attention to it.

So yes, I cried.

Quite possibly more than once.

But I don’t think those were really tears of sadness.

They were the sort that arrive when something reminds you just how precious this ridiculous, messy, beautiful thing called life actually is.

And honestly?

I’ll take that kind of crying any day.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
