The Kindness I Didn’t See Coming

What’s a moment when a stranger completely restored your faith in people?

I still remember watching a complete stranger do something incredibly small.

I was in a café one afternoon when an older gentleman in front of me was counting coins, trying to work out what he could afford. He was clearly embarrassed, and the woman behind him quietly stepped forward, paid the difference, and simply said, “It’s alright.”

No big speech.
No fuss.
No waiting around for someone to tell her how wonderful she was.

She just paid for his lunch and carried on with her day.

I don’t even know her name.

But I remember thinking that maybe we’re sometimes too busy looking for the worst in people to notice how much quiet goodness is happening right beside us.

That little moment stayed with me.

Because kindness doesn’t always arrive with a grand gesture.

Sometimes it’s just one stranger making another person’s day a little easier — and expecting absolutely nothing in return.

Maybe that’s enough to restore a little faith in people after all.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋

Lucy, this is so beautifully written. That moment you witnessed, that woman didn’t just pay for lunch, she restored someone’s dignity. And years later, she’s still teaching kindness through your words. This is what I believe in: those quiet moments where one person sees another person’s struggle and simply says, ‘I see you.’ Thank you for remembering, and for reminding us all

Thank you so much. I think that’s what stayed with me, kindness can give someone something much bigger than whatever we think we’re giving in the moment. Sometimes simply being seen can change the whole experience.
