What’s something you used to worry about but don’t anymore?
If you’d asked me this question a few years ago, I probably would have said I worried about getting things wrong.
Today?
I worry a lot less about disappointing people.
Not because I’ve become careless or stopped caring. Quite the opposite.
I still want to be kind. I still want to show up for the people I love. I still believe encouragement is one of the greatest gifts we can give each other.
But somewhere along the way, I realized there is a big difference between being kind… and trying to make everyone happy.
The second one is impossible.
For the longest time, I thought saying “yes” made me a good person. Saying yes to one more favor. One more request. One more obligation. One more chance to prove I was dependable.
What I didn’t notice was that every “yes” to everyone else sometimes became a “no” to myself.
A quiet evening disappeared.
A hobby got postponed.
Rest became something I’d earn “later.”
Eventually I learned that people who genuinely care about you don’t expect you to run on empty.
They understand that healthy boundaries aren’t walls—they’re fences with gates. You can still welcome people in without leaving the front door open twenty-four hours a day.
Ironically, once I stopped trying to please everyone, I became more present for the people who truly mattered.
Instead of rushing from one obligation to another, I could actually listen.
Instead of saying yes because I felt guilty, I could say yes because I genuinely wanted to.
There’s a world of difference.
These days I don’t lose sleep wondering whether every single person approves of me.
Some won’t.
Some never will.
And that’s okay.
I’d rather be remembered as someone who was honest, kind and authentic than someone who exhausted herself trying to be everything to everyone.
Life feels lighter when you stop carrying expectations that were never yours to carry in the first place.
So if you’re someone who worries about disappointing people, here’s a gentle reminder:
Being thoughtful doesn’t require being available every minute.
Being generous doesn’t require giving away every ounce of yourself.
And protecting your own peace isn’t selfish.
It’s what allows you to keep showing up—with a full heart instead of an empty cup.
I think that’s something worth worrying a little less about.
Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
