A Hundred Years From Now

What’s something you’d love to see in the future, but know you probably won’t live to witness?

I think I’d like to see the world a hundred years from now.

Not because of flying cars or robot butlers.

Those things always seem less interesting once somebody has to insure them.

What I’d really like to see is the people.

Who will be living in our houses?

Who will be walking down our streets?

Will somebody still be sitting outside the café having exactly the same conversation people are having today?

Will there still be somebody here insisting things were better fifty years ago?

I suspect there will.

Some traditions survive everything.

I sometimes think about the people who lived here a hundred years ago.

They couldn’t possibly imagine our world.

Our phones.

Our cars.

The fact that I can have a conversation with somebody on the other side of the world while sitting in my kitchen.

To them, it would have seemed like science fiction.

Which makes me wonder what will seem perfectly ordinary a hundred years from now.

Perhaps somebody will be reading these words and smiling at how quaint we all were.

If so, I hope they’re happy.

And I hope they still stop for tea.

Some things shouldn’t change.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
