Questions Over Potatoes

If you could have dinner with any philosopher, who would it be?

I think I’d choose Socrates.

Not because I understand philosophy terribly well — I don’t. Half the time I can barely understand the instructions on a microwave meal.

But I like the idea of having dinner with somebody who asks questions simply because they genuinely want to understand how people think.

Some would surely insist philosophy is just ‘thinking too much without getting paid for it,’ and others would spend the evening trying to make sure everybody actually finished their potatoes before discussing the meaning of life.

And somewhere around dessert, Socrates would probably ask me something impossible like:

‘What makes a person happy?’

And I’d answer:

‘A decent cup of tea and people who let you be yourself.’

Which I think is probably philosophy enough for one evening.”

Stay fabulous,
