What’s a moment that made you realize you were stronger than you thought?
I think most people imagine strength as some dramatic movie moment where somebody climbs a mountain, survives a storm or delivers an inspirational speech while music swells heroically in the background.
In reality, I think strength is usually much quieter than that.
Sometimes it’s just getting up one more time when you would quite honestly rather stay under a blanket and ignore the world for a few business days.
I remember once realising I was handling something I would previously have fallen apart over, and the strange thing was there wasn’t some magical triumphant feeling attached to it. I was mostly just tired and carrying on because there didn’t seem to be another option.
Which, now I think about it, is probably how a lot of real strength works.
People survive heartbreaks, disappointments, frightening phone calls, difficult years and all sorts of things they once swore would destroy them completely.
And then one morning they find themselves standing in a supermarket comparing different brands of pasta like nothing happened.
Human beings are oddly resilient like that.
I also think we underestimate how strong we become simply by surviving ordinary life.
Holding families together.
Showing up for people.
Keeping going when things feel uncertain.
Trying again after embarrassment.
Learning how to adapt when life changes shape unexpectedly.
That takes far more strength than most people give themselves credit for.
Honestly though, I think the moment you realise you’re stronger than you thought is rarely loud or glamorous.
Usually it’s just the quiet realization that something which once would have destroyed you… didn’t.
And somehow, you kept going.
Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
