The Magic of Not Knowing Yet

If you could erase one movie from your memory and watch it again for the first time, which one would it be?

There’s a dangerous question.

Because part of me wants to say something clever and respectable. Some cinematic masterpiece full of symbolism and emotional depth so people think I spend my evenings watching black-and-white French films while drinking coffee near a rainy window.

But honestly?

It would probably be Blues Brothers.

Not just because of the music. Or the car chases. Or the complete disregard for public infrastructure.

It’s that wonderful moment halfway through the film where you suddenly realise absolutely nobody involved has any intention whatsoever of behaving sensibly ever again.

And somehow, instead of ruining the film, that’s exactly what makes it brilliant.

You stop watching it like a normal movie and start watching it the same way people watch shopping trolleys rolling downhill in strong wind.

With concern.
But also curiosity.

And I think there’s something lovely about seeing a film for the first time before life teaches you how stories usually work. Before you know the lines. Before you anticipate the scenes. Before your brain quietly starts organising the chaos into something familiar.

That first watch only happens once.

Which feels slightly unfair really.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋

Don’t miss out on this week’s episode of Return To Mellow Yellow where I take you with me to visit my somewhat dysfunctional little family and friends in Saffron Walden.
