The Art Of Having Less

What are the biggest benefits of minimalist living?

People talk about minimalist living like it means owning exactly three forks and sleeping on a chair made out of recycled driftwood.

Personally, I don’t think it has to be that dramatic.

I think the biggest benefit of living with less is simply having less noise in your life.

Less clutter.
Less rushing.
Less things you bought because you were tired, stressed, bored or convinced by somebody on the internet that your happiness depended on owning another storage basket.

The funny thing is that most people I know aren’t actually searching for more things.

They’re searching for more peace.

And those two things rarely travel together.

I’ve noticed the happiest moments around here are usually very simple ones.
A cup of tea at the café.
Rain against the kitchen window.
Someone fixing something old instead of replacing it.
Cold drinks in the garden while everybody argues over something completely ridiculous.

Nobody remembers the expensive stuff nearly as much as they remember the feeling of being comfortable.

Mind you, there is a man I know who firmly believes keeping absolutely everything “because it might come in handy one day” is a perfectly reasonable lifestyle choice.

This is the same man who once spent forty minutes searching through a shed for a screw he claimed was “special” before eventually discovering it was completely identical to the other two hundred screws in the same tin.

Apparently this is called “organisation.”

Honestly, I think minimalism is less about owning nothing and more about making room for the things that actually matter.

And preferably being able to find the television remote without needing a full archaeological excavation of the sofa.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
