The People You End Up Listening To

List the people you admire and look to for advice…

There are certain people you end up listening to, even when you didn’t quite plan to.

Not because they tell you what to do… but because, somewhere along the way, you realise they tend to be right. Or at least right enough to make you pause.

Dad is one of them.

Not in the obvious way. He doesn’t sit you down and give advice. In fact, if you asked him directly, he’d probably dodge the question entirely or answer with something that sounds like a joke at first. But then later—sometimes much later—you realise there was something in it.

He has a way of saying things slightly sideways. As if he doesn’t want to make a point too directly. But the point lands anyway.

Mum is different.

She doesn’t say things unless she means them. And she doesn’t repeat herself. So when she does speak—properly, not just in passing—you listen. Not because she asks you to, but because there’s a kind of certainty in the way she says things. As if she’s already thought it through three times before saying it out loud.

With Mum, it’s not about how much she says. It’s about when she chooses to say it.

Frank doesn’t give advice either.

At least, not in any way that sounds like advice. He tells stories. Long ones, sometimes. About things that happened years ago, or people you’ve never met, or places that don’t seem to have much to do with anything at all.

And then, somewhere in the middle of it, or right at the end, there’s something that sticks. Something you didn’t expect to hear. He never points it out. He just lets it sit there, like it’s obvious.

And somehow, it is.

I don’t think any of them would say they’re the kind of people you go to for advice.

And I don’t think I’ve ever properly asked them for it either.

But it seems to find its way through, regardless.

In small comments.
In stories.
In the things that are said without being made into a big deal.

Funny thing is… you don’t always realise you’ve taken their advice until much later….when you hear yourself saying something… and it sounds a little bit like them.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋

Wait, does the nav block sit on the footer for this theme? That's bold.
