What is your favorite restaurant?

There’s a small place just off the main street that I keep finding my way back to.

Not because it’s the best in town—although I suspect some would argue that—but because it feels… easy. The kind of place where no one rushes you, where the chairs don’t quite match, and where you’re allowed to sit a little longer than you probably should.

I don’t always order the same thing, but I always think I will. There’s comfort in that moment of deciding, even if I change my mind at the last second. I usually do.

The owner remembers people in that quiet way—not in a “good evening, welcome back” sort of performance, but in small details. A nod. A smile. The right kind of pause before asking what you’d like.

It’s not really about the food, although I’ve never had a bad meal there. It’s about the feeling of being somewhere that doesn’t expect anything from you.

Some places ask you to dress up, speak a little differently, behave a certain way.

This one just lets you be.

And I think that’s why I keep going back.

…also, they do a dangerously good dessert, which I pretend isn’t the real reason.
