Write about your approach to budgeting.
Budgeting, darling, is not about saying no to life — it’s about deciding what deserves a proper yes.
I’ve never been the kind of person who lives inside spreadsheets. I prefer a good notebook, a strong cup of tea, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing where my money is actually going. Not in a restrictive way — more like steering a little boat so it doesn’t drift off into dramatic financial oceans.
For me, budgeting begins with honesty.
Rent, bills, groceries — the unglamorous trio that keeps the lights on and the kettle warm. Those come first, always. After that? I like to leave room for the things that make life feel alive: a swing dance ticket, a proper café croissant, or the occasional lipstick that makes me feel like I’ve got my life together even when I don’t.
I don’t believe in punishing budgets. If every pound is locked behind rules, you start resenting the system — and resentment never lasts long. Instead, I think of it like dressing well: a solid base layer, a few statement pieces, and just enough freedom to feel spontaneous.
Dad says budgeting is about “planning for a rainy day.”
Mum says it’s about “not letting the rainy day plan your life.”
Somewhere between the two, I’ve found my rhythm.
And yes — I do still have a small “mystery envelope” tucked away. Not for emergencies exactly… more for moments when life surprises you and you want to say yes without hesitation.
Because at the end of the day, budgeting isn’t about counting coins.
It’s about choosing your stories carefully — and making sure you can afford the ones that matter most.
Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
