The Heart-Thump Kind of News

You get some great, amazingly fantastic news. What’s the first thing you do?

First thing?

I go completely still.

Not dramatic stillness — just that quiet pause where the world holds its breath with me. I let it land. I let it sink in properly, because rushing past good news is a crime, frankly. Joy deserves to be felt, not skimmed.

Then I smile.

A real one. The soft kind that starts somewhere behind the ribs.

After that, I make tea. Always tea. Good news needs a witness, and a mug is loyal company. I’ll sit there for a minute longer than necessary, staring out the window, replaying the sentence that changed the day like it’s a favourite lyric.

I don’t announce it straight away.

I never do.

Good news gets shared carefully — with the right people, in the right order. The ones who’ll get it, not just nod at it. The ones who’ll smile like it happened to them too.

And only then — once it’s settled, warmed, and properly acknowledged — I get up, straighten my shoulders, and think:

Right then. Let’s see what we do with this.

Because the best news isn’t an ending.

It’s an opening.

And I do love a good opening, darling.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋

Don’t miss out on this week’s episode of Return To Mellow Yellow where I take you with me to visit my somewhat dysfunctional little family and friends in Saffron Walden.
