How would you improve your community?
I don’t think we need more shops or signs… just a bit more time for each other.
I was walking through town earlier, just popping out for a few bits I probably didn’t need, and I noticed how quickly everyone moves now. Heads down, bags in hand, that slight look of being half a step behind their own day.
You still get the nods, of course. The polite sort. The ones that say I see you… but not quite I know you.
There’s a lady I pass most mornings near the bookshop — we’ve done the same little dance for months now. A smile, a half-second pause, almost a “how are you?”… and then we both carry on. Every time I think, one day we’ll actually stop and say it properly.
Funny thing is, I don’t think anyone’s unfriendly. If anything, it’s the opposite. Everyone seems kind. Just… busy being somewhere else.
And I get it. I do the same. Always one more thing to do, one more place to be, one more message to answer before the kettle’s even boiled.
But I do wonder what would happen if we all just slowed it down a touch.
Not in some grand, life-changing way… just enough to let a conversation happen where a nod usually lives.
Feels like it would make a difference.
Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
