What is one word that describes you?
It’s a curious thing, trying to reduce oneself to a single word.
We are, after all, not built that way. Not really.
We are a collection of mornings and missteps, of confidence one day and doubt the next. A mixture of things we’ve been, things we are, and things we are still quietly becoming when no one is watching. To take all of that… and place it neatly into one word feels almost… unfair.
And yet, there is something rather revealing in the attempt.
Because it forces you to pause.
To consider not just how the world might describe you… but how you understand yourself, when everything else falls away.
I’ve been called many things over the years — some kind, some less so, and a few that depended entirely on the day and the audience. And perhaps that’s part of it too… we are rarely perceived in quite the same way twice.
But if I set all of that aside… the expectations, the impressions, the carefully polished versions…
If I had to choose just one word…
I believe I would say:
becoming.
Not because I have it all figured out — quite the opposite.
But because there is a quiet comfort in knowing that I don’t have to.
There is something rather freeing in understanding that who you are today is not the final version. That you are allowed to grow, to change your mind, to soften in places you once held firm, and perhaps stand a little taller where you once hesitated.
I think we spend far too much time trying to arrive.
To define ourselves in ways that feel complete and permanent… as if life were a destination one could reach and neatly settle into.
But I’ve come to believe it’s something else entirely.
A process. A movement. A series of small, often unnoticed shifts that, over time, shape us into something we might not have recognised at the start.
And there’s something rather lovely about that, isn’t there?
The idea that we are not finished.
That there is still more to discover, more to understand, more to become.
So no… I am not just one thing.
None of us are.
But if I must choose a word…
I think I’ll choose one that leaves room.
Because I am still, in all the best ways,
becoming.
Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
