Some Stories Never Grow Old

What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?

There are films you watch once.

There are films you like.

And then there are the ones you return to so often they start to feel less like entertainment and more like old friends.

For me, the list begins — rather predictably, I’m afraid — with Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

I’ve watched it more times than I can count. Not because it’s perfect (it isn’t), but because every time I return to Holly Golightly, I notice something new — a line, a look, a quiet moment on a fire escape with a guitar and the early morning light. Some characters don’t just live in a film; they live somewhere in your imagination long after the credits roll.

Then there are the series that feel like a warm cup of tea on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I’ve happily rewatched episodes of Keeping Up Appearances more times than is probably respectable. There’s something deeply comforting about watching Hyacinth Bucket insist on standards while the world around her quietly collapses.

And of course, a proper British upbringing means you eventually develop a fondness for the gentle chaos of The Vicar of Dibley. A village, a slightly overwhelmed vicar, and enough eccentric personalities to power an entire county.

Perhaps that’s the secret of the stories we revisit.

They don’t change — but somehow we do.

And every time we come back, they greet us like an old friend saying,

“Ah, there you are again.”

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋

Don’t miss out on this week’s episode of Return To Mellow Yellow where I take you with me to visit my somewhat dysfunctional little family and friends in Saffron Walden.
