How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?
Failure has an unfortunate reputation.
It tends to arrive loudly, ruin a perfectly respectable plan, and leave behind the faint impression that one should perhaps have known better.
But in my experience, failure is rarely the end of the story. More often, it’s simply the moment when the original plan collapses and something more interesting begins.
Some of the best turns in my life started with what felt, at the time, like a fairly spectacular misstep.
A plan that didn’t work.
An opportunity that disappeared.
A decision that turned out to be completely wrong.
At the time, these things feel like detours. But when you look back later, you realise they were actually redirections.
Failure has a curious way of pointing out what wasn’t meant for you in the first place.
And once that’s cleared out of the way, something far more suitable tends to appear.
Not immediately, of course. Life isn’t that efficient.
But eventually.
So I’ve come to view failure not as a verdict, but as a rather blunt piece of guidance.
It simply says:
Try again — but perhaps not like that.
And in the long run, that turns out to be surprisingly useful.
Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
