The Experiences That Grew Me

What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

Growth is such a polite word, isn’t it?

It sounds like something that happens gently. Like houseplants stretching toward the light. Like well-managed development.

In reality, growth tends to arrive wearing steel-toe boots.

If I look back honestly, the experiences that helped me grow the most weren’t the ones I curated. They weren’t the victories, the neatly packaged milestones, or the aesthetically pleasing chapters.

They were the uncomfortable ones.

Moving to a bigger city where nobody knew my name — and realising that anonymity is both terrifying and liberating.

Saying yes to things before I felt ready.

Saying no when I finally understood I didn’t owe everyone access to my time.

Failing publicly (which feels like the end of the world) and then discovering that the world, infuriatingly, continues anyway.

Building something of my own — slowly, post by post — and learning that consistency is less glamorous than inspiration, but far more powerful.

There were smaller moments too.

Conversations that didn’t go the way I planned.

Friendships that shifted.

Plans that dissolved.

Rooms where I felt out of place — until I didn’t.

Growth, I’ve learned, rarely feels like growth while it’s happening. It feels like doubt. Or stretching. Or a mild identity crisis.

But every time I stepped into something that made me slightly uncomfortable — a new city, a new role, a new version of myself — I expanded a little.

And perhaps that’s the pattern.

Not dramatic reinvention.

Not overnight transformation.

Just the quiet decision to keep showing up, even when you feel unqualified, underprepared, or mildly terrified.

Those are the experiences that shaped me most.

The ones that asked, “Are you sure?”

And forced me to answer, “Let’s find out.”

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
