The One in the Front Seat

What makes a good leader?

You know what makes a good leader? It’s not the title on the door or the size of the voice. It’s the way they see people. Like, really see them.

I’ve worked with the shouters, the desk-thumpers, the ones who collect buzzwords like fridge magnets and still think “synergy” is a personality trait. And then, I’ve followed the quiet ones — the ones who pick up the empty coffee cups and know your dog’s name. Guess which ones got my best work?

A good leader doesn’t always walk in front. Sometimes they’re behind you, steering gently with a nod. Sometimes they’re beside you, rolling their sleeves up. And sometimes — just sometimes — they hand you the keys and say, “Your turn to drive, darling.”

They take the heat, pass the praise, and somehow make you feel like the whole thing was your idea in the first place. They listen like it’s their job. And they laugh. A lot. Especially when things go sideways.

Truth is, the best leaders don’t lead because they have to. They lead because they can’t not. It’s who they are — generous, grounded, and gloriously human.

So here’s to the ones who never made it about them.

And if you’re lucky enough to work with one — bring them coffee. They’ve earned it.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
