Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.

When I think about the people who’ve shaped me, I don’t think of loud voices or dramatic speeches. I think of a man who made tea without asking, who knew how to fix a wobbly chair with a bit of string and quiet patience. A man who never said “I’m proud of you” in words, but in the way he handed me a new notebook the minute I filled the last page.

He was the kind of man who taught me that strength doesn’t have to shout. That consistency is its own kind of love. That real impact often happens in the margins — in the moments no one claps for.

He wasn’t flashy. He didn’t post quotes or talk about legacies. But he showed up. Every single day. With kindness, with humour, with a gentle “you’ll figure it out” when I was ready to give up.

He didn’t just believe in me — he reminded me to believe in myself.

And the older I get, the more I realise that some of the strongest men are the ones who don’t need to be seen to make you feel held.
