If you’ve ever wondered where I get my flair for lipstick and stubborn optimism, blame my mother.

She has this effortless way of turning ordinary moments into ceremony. A Tuesday dinner? Out comes the good china. A trip to the shops? That calls for pearls. When she laughs, it’s the kind of sound that fills the whole room — as if she’s privately decided that joy deserves to be loud.

But underneath the glamour, she’s steel. The kind that bends for no one and nothing, except love. She taught me that kindness isn’t weakness and that grace, real grace, is best shown when you’re tempted to throw a shoe.

We don’t always agree — she still calls my ripped jeans “tragedies” and insists my dog should wear a bow tie at Christmas — but she’s the voice in my head reminding me to stand tall, even when I’m wobbling in heels.

Every bit of glitter I scatter in this world has a trace of her hand in it.
