The Goal That Set Me Free

What was the hardest personal goal you’ve set for yourself?

Darling, the hardest personal goal I’ve ever set for myself wasn’t about a number on a scale, a deadline on a calendar, or a new skill on my résumé. It was scarier than all of that. It was the decision to stop living small.

For years, I played polite. I kept my writing in notebooks, my ideas in drawers, my voice at a polite indoor volume. The world had taught me that nice girls don’t take up too much space, and I’d gotten very good at folding myself neatly.

Then one morning, over coffee and a hint of despair, I scribbled a goal in my journal:

“Be seen. Be bold. Build something that matters.”

That’s it. No specifics. Just the terrifying promise to stop hiding.

It meant starting this blog, even when the first posts felt like shouting into an empty ballroom. It meant putting my name, my stories, and my red-lipsticked heart out where strangers could see it. It meant showing up again and again, even on days when I doubted if anyone cared.

And it was hard — harder than any marathon or degree or clean-eating challenge. Because it required vulnerability. It required not just doing something new, but being someone braver.

But darling, that’s the magic. On the other side of that goal wasn’t applause or fame. It was freedom. The freedom to be fully myself, to connect with people who see me, to build a space where others feel seen too.

So yes — that’s the hardest goal I’ve ever set: to stop shrinking, and start shining. And every day I recommit to it.

And you, darling? What’s the goal that scared you — and shaped you?

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
