If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?
Darling, I use words the way other people use accessories — deliberately, with just the right touch of sparkle. So the thought of giving one up feels like being asked to step out without earrings. Unnatural.
But if pressed, I know the culprit: “busy.”
It slips out far too often. “How are you?” — “Busy.” “How’s life?” — “Busy.” As though the state of my calendar is the state of my soul. And really, isn’t that just the dullest answer in the book?
Busy says nothing. Busy doesn’t sparkle. Busy is a placeholder, a shrug dressed up as productivity.
Because if you look closer, busy isn’t always truth. Sometimes it’s a mask. Sometimes it’s me trying to dodge a question or hide behind a to-do list so no one notices I’m tired, or lonely, or just need a glitter break.
So if I had to drop a word, it would be that one. And in its place? I’d say “full.” Full of stories. Full of coffee. Full of small stumbles and big laughs. Full of days that sometimes tangle into chaos, yes, but also moments of lipstick-on-a-napkin glamour that make it all worthwhile.
Full says I’m living, not just filling hours. Full makes room for sparkle.
So goodbye, “busy.” You’ve never looked good on me anyway.
And you, darling? If you had to give up one word, which one would you set free — and what word would you slip on instead?
Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
