Velvet Altars & Lipstick Prayers

How important is spirituality in your life?

Some folks light candles.
Some sit cross-legged in silence.
Me? I smooth on red lipstick, whisper a thank-you to the sky, and trust the universe to catch me in heels or barefoot.

Spirituality in my life? Darling, it’s not about incense and mantras (though I’m not opposed to either). It’s about presence. It’s about that hush I feel when the jazz hits just right. It’s how I pause before biting into ripe fruit or hold someone’s gaze a second longer because I know something sacred is happening. Always is.

I don’t belong to a religion. But I belong to beauty. To timing. To energy that feels right. I find divinity in small things:
A perfect cup of coffee.
A song that knows my ache.
The moon when she’s just showing off.

I pray in the quiet way.
Not on my knees, but through action. Through kindness. Through not ghosting people who spill their truth in text messages at 2 a.m. Through forgiving my past self when she didn’t know better.

And sometimes — when no one’s looking — I do light that candle.
Vanilla and bergamot.
Because there’s no rule saying your altar can’t smell delicious.

Spirituality, for me, isn’t a schedule. It’s a shimmer. It shows up in the air between two people who really see each other. In a belly laugh that echoes too loudly in a quiet café. In the way I hold my own hand on hard days and say, We’re okay. We’ve got this.

So yes, darling. Spirituality lives here. Not in dogma, but in devotion. Not in perfection, but in presence. It’s in the way I move through the world, fierce and soft and fiercely soft.

Now tell me, sugar —
Where does the sacred live for you?

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋

Your answer is beautiful darling, Luce. Be in religion or not, what matters is the character that shines.

      Oh Hazel, sugar —
That means the world to me.
You’re right — it’s the shine, not the shelf it’s stored on. Whether we find our sacred in stained glass or sunlit mornings, what counts is how we show up: with kindness, fire, and a little grace tucked in our pockets.

Thank you for being part of this little circle where the light is welcome — however it arrives.
