Feathers, Freedom, and a Hint of Lipstick: My Kind of Retirement

How do you want to retire?

Darling,

Let’s get one thing clear: I don’t dream of retiring to a beige condo with matching beige meals and beige conversations. No, thank you. My version of retirement doesn’t involve fading into the background — it involves finally stepping into full technicolor.

I want to retire with feathers in my hair and books stacked to the ceiling. I want mornings slow as molasses, filled with fresh coffee, and soft jazz spilling from the speakers. I want a garden just wild enough to make the neighbors curious, and a front porch that knows all my secrets.

No deadlines. No inbox. Just time.

Time to write the things I never dared to write before. Time to teach young souls how to tell their stories and wear sequins in the daylight. Time to take off my shoes and dance barefoot in the kitchen — just because the playlist got spicy.

I want to retire in a place that knows how to whisper peace and scream joy. Maybe a quiet cottage by the sea… or a tucked-away flat above a bookstore where I know the barista by name and the owner lets me sneak scones before closing.

And of course — I want a wardrobe that still includes red lipstick, statement earrings, and at least one shawl that looks like I stole it from a Parisian opera house.

But more than anything, I want to retire with no regrets — not a single “I wish I had.” I want to look back and know I used every color in the palette. That I wrote it all down. That I gave a damn. That I lived.

So no, I don’t dream of retiring quietly.

I dream of retiring fabulously.

Want to chime in, darling? Tell me how you picture your dream retirement in the comments. Beach hut? Bookshop? Backyard with ten dogs and no alarms? I’m all ears.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
