The Things I’d Save in a Fire

What personal belongings do you hold most dear?

If the house was burning and I had 30 seconds to grab my most cherished belongings, here’s what I’d not be reaching for: my phone, my laptop, or that stack of unpaid utility bills.

No, no. I’d be grabbing the things that carry soul, sugar — the ones that whisper stories when no one’s talking.

Let’s break it down:

1. My red lipstick —
The shade is called “Temptation,” and baby, it’s lived up to the name. It’s danced through late-night swing-outs, bold job interviews, and one glorious karaoke rendition of Fever that still echoes in the minds of at least three exes.

2. My signed Billie Holiday vinyl —
Yes, it’s real. Yes, I cried when I found it. And yes, it skips right in the middle of Strange Fruit, like it’s protecting me from hearing too much pain at once. Sacred.

3. A handwritten note from my grandmother —
It’s tucked in an old recipe book, and it simply says, “Keep dancing, even when no one’s watching.” That woman was full of bourbon, stories, and unsolicited advice — and she was always right.

4. My cat-eye glasses —
They’re more than prescription lenses. They are my crown. Without them, I’m not Luce — I’m just a very expressive blur.

5. My swing shoes —
They’ve scuffed up polished floors, worn grooves into wooden ones, and once got me a standing ovation in a London basement. They’re not just shoes — they’re witnesses.

I’ve learned that the most precious things aren’t expensive. They’re worn-in, passed-down, scribbled-on. They smell like perfume and powdered sugar and carry echoes of who you’ve been — and who you’re becoming.

So, what do I hold most dear? Anything with fingerprints, laughter lines, or lipstick stains.

What about you, sugar?
What would you save when the smoke starts to rise?

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋
