Glam, Grit, and a Triple Step: My Kind of Cardio

Darling, you already know what I’m going to say to this one — but let’s not pretend I’m subtle about it.

The most fun way to exercise?
Dancing. Always and forever, dancing.

But not just any dancing — I’m talking full-blown, skirt-spinning, vintage jazz-fueled Lindy Hop. The kind that makes your cheeks ache from smiling, your legs wobble like a baby deer, and your heart feel like it just had a glitter bath.

Now, let me back up a little.

I tried all the usual suspects. Gym memberships I used like coat check. Yoga classes that were lovely but made me feel like a sleepy croissant. A short-lived flirtation with pilates that ended when the instructor asked me to “hold plank and breathe.” I was like, “Darling, I can do one or the other, not both.”

But then… I found swing. And nothing’s been the same since.

Lindy Hop doesn’t feel like a workout — it feels like a celebration. It’s laughter mid-turn, footwork that sneaks in squats and cardio before your brain can protest, and a full-body connection to rhythm, joy, and whoever’s holding your hand. One minute you’re bouncing to the beat, the next you’re flipping into a swing out that makes you feel like a champagne cork popping free from gravity.

There’s no “are we done yet?” — because you don’t want it to end.

The best part? It’s social. It’s spontaneous. It’s sweaty without being sterile. There are no treadmills, no calorie counters, no mirrors judging your posture — just people, music, and the glorious freedom to move how you feel.

And yes, before you ask, even during lockdown I kept the spirit alive — dancing alone in the kitchen, inventing full routines with a broom, and possibly traumatizing my co-workers with my sock-slide solo rehearsals in the office.

And let’s not forget — it’s chic. My workout wardrobe includes twirly skirts, hair flowers, and red lipstick that refuses to quit. Who says you can’t burn calories and serve a look?

So if you’re looking for a fun way to exercise, here’s my advice:
Find what makes you feel alive.
What makes you giggle mid-movement.
What leaves you breathless but buzzing.
For me? It’s the Lindy Hop.
For you? It might be roller skating, Zumba, hula-hooping in the garden, or chasing your dog in couture. As long as it feels like joy in motion — you’re doing it right.

Now if you’ll excuse me, the band’s playing my favorite tune, and these heels were made for a triple-step.

Stay fabulous,
Luce 💋

Like what you read? Darling, this is just the beginning.
